Professional stretch mark treatment in the U.S. typically runs from about $150 to $2,500 or more per session, and a full plan of 3 to 6 sessions commonly lands between $1,500 and $8,000, according to a 2026 cost guide from an aesthetics practice. Where you fall depends on the technology, the size of the area and how mature the marks are. Below, we break down each option, what you pay per session and per plan, and how to get the most improvement per dollar.

TL;DR

  • Chemical peels are the lowest-cost professional route ($150 to $400 per session), laser sits at the top (up to $2,500 or more per session), and microneedling and RF microneedling fall in between.
  • Plan on a series, not one visit: most people need 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart.
  • Insurance almost never covers stretch mark treatment, so budget out of pocket and ask about payment plans.
  • Total package cost matters more than the per-session price, and newer red or purple marks usually respond faster and cost less than older white ones.
  • At our Portland clinic, microneedling starts at $185 per area, with a free consultation to map out your plan.

Table of Contents

What stretch mark treatment costs, option by option

Prices vary by city and provider, so treat the figures below as national ranges from published guides, not quotes. The table pulls together the ranges from West Asheville Aesthetics and CosmeticSurgeryCostGuide.

OptionTypical cost per sessionTypical sessionsBest suited to
Prescription topical retinoids$30 to $80 per monthOngoingVery new marks, low budget
Chemical peels$150 to $4003 to 6Early, superficial marks and overall texture
Traditional microneedling$200 to $7003 to 6Mature and new marks, a range of skin tones
RF microneedling$600 to $1,5003 to 6Mature (white) marks needing deeper collagen work
Fractional laser resurfacing$400 to $2,500+3 to 6Established marks, where the provider and device fit your skin

For laser specifically, HealthorSkin reports U.S. averages of $300 to $1,200 per session in 2025, with full plans often totaling $1,500 to $6,000. If you see a single low promotional number online, check whether it covers one small patch, a package, or a device that is less aggressive than the one used in clinical results.

Why the ranges are so wide

Two patients can ask the same question and get very different quotes. The spread comes from a handful of factors, and knowing them lets you compare quotes fairly.

What drives the price of your treatment plan

Treated area. Providers usually price by zone, not by individual mark. A full abdomen costs considerably more than a smaller area such as the inner thighs or upper arms.

Technology. Peels and standard microneedling use simpler tools. RF microneedling and fractional lasers use more expensive devices and often require more training, which shows in the price.

Age and color of the marks. Newer red or purple marks typically respond faster and cost less than mature white ones. Per the Mayo Clinic, choice of therapy depends on how long you have had the marks, your skin type, convenience and cost.

Number of sessions. Most plans need 3 to 6 visits. A clinic that quotes one session and promises a result is a red flag (more on that below).

Add-ons. Platelet-rich plasma or PRF, numbing, and post-care products can add to a session price. A review of regenerative approaches points to promising collagen results when PRP or similar biologics are paired with microneedling, which is why many clinics offer them as an upgrade.

Location and provider. Metro-area rent, the credentials of the person performing the treatment and the equipment all feed into price.

Comparing the real options

Chemical peels

Peels are the entry point. They resurface the top layers of skin and can improve tone and texture, but stretch marks sit deeper, so peels work best for fine, early marks or as a supporting step. With a range of $150 to $400 per session, a series of 3 to 6 comes to roughly $450 to $2,400 according to CosmeticSurgeryCostGuide.

Microneedling

Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels that trigger collagen and elastin production. It is often the best value for stretch marks. A randomized study comparing microneedling with fractional non-ablative laser on white stretch marks found patient-reported improvement with both and no statistically significant difference between the groups. The same research notes microneedling is a strong option for deeper skin tones (Fitzpatrick types III to IV) because it carries a lower risk of pigment changes than some lasers.

If you are curious what to expect from the procedure, see our guide on microneedling for stretch marks and realistic results.

RF microneedling

RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy at the needle tip to heat deeper tissue. It is the technique the Mayo Clinic-backed research summary links with mature striae alba, where aggressive collagen remodeling matters. It costs more per session than standard microneedling, but some patients need fewer visits. Our comparison of microneedling, RF microneedling and PRF walks through how to choose.

Fractional laser

Lasers sit at the top of the price range. Ablative fractional lasers (such as CO2) remove tiny columns of tissue and may involve more downtime. Non-ablative versions are gentler. A 2026 comprehensive review in PubMed found that ablative and non-ablative fractional lasers improved collagen remodeling and the appearance of stretch marks. Lasers are not automatically better, though: the microneedling study above showed comparable patient-reported results for white marks, at typically lower cost.

Prescription creams and retinoids

Topical tretinoin can modestly help, mostly on young marks, and the same review describes its effect as dependent on concentration and duration. At $30 to $80 a month it is cheap, but it is a long game. Over-the-counter creams promise a lot; they are not what this page is about, and we would not budget for them as a substitute for in-clinic treatment.

Surgery

Surgical options such as a tummy tuck are major procedures with far higher costs and are generally not performed to treat stretch marks alone. If you are weighing surgery, talk with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

What our Portland clinic charges

We will not hand you a vague range. These are our published per-area prices for the treatments we use on stretch marks and surrounding skin:

Treatment at Laser Skin SolutionsPrice
Microneedling (single area)$185 per area
Microneedling with PRF (single area)$285 per area
RF Microneedling (single area)$285 per area
MandeliClear with Vitamin A Accelerator$175
VI Peel Original$300
VI Peel Purify$350

These are per-session prices. Multiply by the number of sessions your plan needs for a real total: for example, a series of four single-area microneedling sessions at 185 $ each comes to 740 $ for one area. Your provider should confirm the number of sessions and areas at your consultation, and we do that for free. See our microneedling pricing page for single-area details, and our acne scar and stretch mark treatment page for how we approach marks and scars.

Our perspective: price per improvement, not price per visit

Patients come in asking for the cheapest session. We steer the conversation toward something else: what total plan gets visible improvement on your specific marks. A low per-session price on a technology that does not reach your type of mark is money spent without a result.

In our experience, the useful questions are these. How old are the marks, and are they still red or already white? What is your skin tone, and how does it affect risk? How much downtime can you realistically take? Those answers decide whether standard microneedling, PRF or RF microneedling is the sensible start, and often whether a peel belongs alongside.

We also set expectations plainly. Stretch marks improve; they rarely vanish. We would rather you walk in expecting a softer, smoother, less visible mark and be pleased than hear a promise of erasure. If you want more on that question, we wrote about whether stretch marks can completely disappear.

Treatments are performed by licensed medical staff, and we adapt protocols to the Pacific Northwest climate and to your skin. If your goals are better met by something we do not offer, we will tell you.

How many sessions, and how much improvement?

No treatment is a one-visit cure. Experts quoted by CosmeticSurgeryCostGuide warn that any provider promising a single-session cure is overpromising, and that visits are usually spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart so collagen can rebuild between them. The same guide cites improvement of often 50 to 80 percent in visibility for most patients with established marks. For mature white marks, realistic goals are 60 to 80 percent improvement rather than complete removal.

Translating that to a timeline: a plan of four sessions spaced six weeks apart runs about four and a half months from first visit to last, with results continuing to develop afterward as collagen forms.

Does insurance cover stretch mark treatment?

Almost never. The Mayo Clinic notes that cosmetic therapies for stretch marks often are not covered by medical insurance, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons says cosmetic skin procedures are generally paid out of pocket unless part of a reconstructive procedure that is medically necessary, which is rare for stretch marks.

To manage the expense, you can:

  1. Ask whether the clinic offers a package or an in-house or third-party payment plan for multi-session series.
  2. Check whether your HSA or FSA administrator allows the expense. Eligibility rules vary, so confirm with your plan before you book.
  3. Start with one area, the one that bothers you most, and add others later.
  4. Treat early. Newer marks cost less to improve.

Is it worth it?

It depends on what you want. If you want marks that are softer, flatter and less noticeable, and you accept a multi-session series and a realistic result, many people find it worthwhile. If you want complete erasure, no non-surgical option delivers that.

A simple test: set your budget for the whole plan (say, four sessions in one area), compare that with the expected improvement for your mark type, and ask whether you would be happy with a 50 to 80 percent change in visibility. If yes, proceed. If you are unsure, book a consultation before spending anything.

How to choose a provider and avoid overpaying

  • Ask who performs the treatment and their training. Licensed medical staff matter for anything that breaks the skin or uses heat.
  • Ask for the full plan price, not just a per-session teaser, including the number of sessions and any add-ons.
  • Be wary of single-session cure claims.
  • Match the technology to your skin tone and mark color. If you have deeper skin, ask how the provider reduces the risk of pigment changes.
  • Look at before and after photos of marks like yours, taken under the same lighting.
  • Ask about downtime so you can plan sessions around work and events. Our notes on what downtime is like after microneedling and whether microneedling is painful are a good start.

FAQ

How much does laser stretch mark treatment cost?

Nationally, laser sessions typically run $300 to $1,200 on average according to HealthorSkin, with advanced devices reaching $2,500 or more per session in other guides. Full plans of several sessions often total $1,500 to $6,000. Always ask for the total plan price.

What is the cheapest professional option?

Chemical peels, at $150 to $400 per session nationally, and standard microneedling are usually the most affordable in-clinic routes. At our clinic, single-area microneedling is 185 $ per area. Cheaper is not always better if the method does not suit your marks, so confirm fit at a consultation.

Can I use insurance or financing?

Insurance generally does not cover stretch mark treatment because it is cosmetic. Many clinics offer packages or payment plans for multi-session series, so ask when you book, and check HSA or FSA rules with your plan administrator.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people need 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. Newer red or purple marks may respond in fewer visits than older white ones. Your provider should give you an estimate after examining your skin.
