Chemical Peels

Avoid tanning and direct sun exposure for two weeks before each treatment. Don’t use any products containing retinoids two weeks before treatment. The chemical peel areas must be free of any open sores, lesions or skin infections. 

Superficial peels cause only slight discomfort during the treatment and afterwards. Most feel a stinging sensation immediately once the chemical is removed from the skin that can be relieved with a small fan blowing on the treated area. Deep chemical peels are much more painful and often require prescribed pain management medication as well as antibiotics so we do not offer them. 

Over the next 1 to 14 days, it is important that you avoid the sun until your skin has fully healed as it will be very sensitive and easily sun burned. After a chemical peel, most people can return to their normal activities immediately. The skin heals quickly after a superficial peel. The skin may turn pink, and usually only minimal peeling occurs. You can use makeup to hide any redness until it fades. There is little or no pain after the peel, but there may be some swelling, especially if the area around the eyes is treated. The skin will turn reddish brown in 2 to 3 days, become crusty, and then flake and peel over the next few days.

After the chemical peel face treatment your skin will begin to peel away. Once this happens new fresh skin is revealed. In addition, your skin will continue to repair itself increasing collagen production which will add to the fresh new skin look you should now be seeing. If you have scaring or discoloration which led you to getting the treatment, you will see that they have become lighter and less noticeable. You skin should now have a more even color and tone across all treated surfaces and you should continue to see improvements over the following 4-6 weeks.
